Bob has been the Director of the Utah Prosecution Council (UPC) since April 2014. Prior to joining UPC, Bob was the chief prosecutor for Orem City, Utah for nearly 18 years. He was also cross-deputized as a deputy Utah County Attorney. He continues to work part-time for the city as the Administrative Law Judge hearing appeals to nuisance and zoning citations. He began his legal career on active duty in the United States Navy as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. While on active duty, he served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. After leaving active duty, Bob joined the Utah National Guard serving an additional 27 years. He was deployed to Afghanistan for 15 months in 2006-2007 where he mentored Afghan military officers, including commanders, judges, prosecutors, investigators and defense attorneys. His final duty assignment with the Utah National Guard was serving as the first state military judge. He retired in May 2021, holding the rank of Colonel. He is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, among others.
